This is a short post to let everybody know that I have tested iPhone2VLC yesterday on the 3.0 firmware version on my iPhone 3G and everything works perfectly, actually works even better. Because of the new JavaScript engine in Safari the Library and Browse modes function quicker giving a better user experience.
Also, I’ve noticed that the application this project is meant to compete with, VLC Remote from AppStore now has a price of 2.99$. iPhone2VLC is, and will continue, to be free and in the near future will start adding more features so as to catch up with the native apps.

I’ve replaced the control buttons with new ones so that iPhone2VLC mimics more of the iPod app GUI.

The Browse and Library panels have been merged into a single view, here’s the screen shot:

I’m releasing today iPhone2VLC version 0.2. This is quite a step forward from the 0.1 Alpha1 that I published the other day. Here’s the list of changes:
- many bugfixes
- added library support, now the user can play files from the library
- switched to customised requests files. The modifications I did on the original VLC requests files are meant to reduce the network traffic of the iPhone and speed up processing of responses from the VLC player
- added progress status
- changed the icon that appears on the iPhone’s home screen to a glossy one

UPDATE:
I will launch 0.2 without the stylish gauges, I wasn’t given permission to use it in iPhone2VLC.

Here’s a screenshot of the upcoming 0.2 version. Let’s just hope that gauge.js’s developer will allow me to use gauge.js. If all goes well, as soon as I get a reply from him I’ll release the 0.2 version. Can you spot some new features?
